Guwahati, April 8 -- Axom Nagarik Sanmilan has alleged a "double standard" in the functioning of Assam Police, citing recent action against Congress leader Pawan Khera and inaction on a complaint filed by AJP Guwahati Central candidate, Kunki Chowdhury.

In a statement, the civil society group said an FIR was registered against Khera soon after he addressed a press conference levelling serious allegations against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, a police team was promptly sent to Delhi to secure his arrest.

In contrast, it said no action has been taken on a complaint lodged by AJP candidate Kunki Chowdhury, who had filed an FIR over the alleged circulation of fake news through AI-generated videos.
