Guwahati: The Assam Legislative Assembly passed a resolution, on Monday, May 25, supporting one-third reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures after the delimitation process is completed.

Women and Child Welfare Minister Ajanta Neog placed the proposal during the third day of the first session of the newly formed Assembly, where it received unanimous approval from members.

The resolution underscores a commitment to reserving one-third of seats in Parliament and state legislatures for women, a move intended to dismantle structural barriers and foster more inclusive political representation in the region.
