Assam: Ankita Konwar becomes first woman from Northeast to cross English Channel
Guwahati, July 4 -- Assam's Ankita Konwar has created history by becoming the first Assamese woman and the first woman from Northeast India to successfully swim across the English Channel as part of an international relay team, completing the grueling challenge in nearly 13 hours.
Widely regarded as one of the world's most demanding open-water swimming routes, the English Channel separates England and France and is known for its freezing temperatures, strong currents, unpredictable tides and rapidly changing weather conditions. Completing the crossing is considered one of the highest accomplishments in endurance sports.
