Guwahati, May 13 -- On May 12, Sujata Gurung Chowdhury, the mother of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) leader Kunki Chowdhury, announced that she would bring a Re 1 defamation lawsuit against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma due to what she called "false allegations" made against her during the Assembly election campaign.

In her statement, she said she was labelled with terms such as "beef eater" "non-Sanatani," and "anti-India communist" without any personal knowledge of her life, beliefs or background.She claimed the remarks were made as part of political campaigning and narrative building.
