Guwahati, May 17 -- Guwahati-based advocate and environmental activist Anindita Das has been asked to appear before police in connection with a case linked to protests against tree felling for a flyover project in the city's Bharalumukh area.

Sharing a copy of the notice on social media on Sunday, Das alleged that police personnel had recently visited her residence while she was away. She later learnt that she had been directed to appear at Oil Police Station in Golaghat district.

The case stems from protests against the felling of old-growth and mature trees in Bharalumukh, where residents, environmental groups and civil society members had opposed the removal of green cover for the flyover project.
