Guwahati, Sept. 20 -- Assam is set to significantly expand its power generation capacity with a proposed 3,200 MW Ultra Super Critical Thermal Power Project at Chapar in Dhubri district.

The project, being developed by Adani Power, will comprise four units of 800 MW each and is estimated to require an investment of around Rs 48,000 crore. The foundation stone for the project is scheduled to be laid at Chapar on September 20.

According to details released by the Assam government, the project is expected to create more than 20,000 jobs during the construction phase and over 5,000 employment opportunities after becoming operational.
