Guwahati, June 5 -- By Manoj Kumar Ojha

Tinsukia: Moran and Motok community organisations have called for a 48-hour shutdown across Assam's Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts from 5 a.m. on Friday.

The shutdown is in protest against the exclusion of their representatives from the recently expanded Assam Cabinet and the delay in granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the two communities.

The shutdown was announced at a joint press conference in Tinsukia by the All Moran Students' Union (AMSU) and the All Assam Motok Youth Students' Association (AAMYSA).

Leaders of the organisations accused the state government of sidelining the Moran and Motok communities despite their contributions to Assam's socio-political and electoral landscape.
