Guwahati: Veteran broadcaster Lily Das Malik, regarded as one of the most recognisable voices of Assamese radio journalism, passed away in Bengaluru on Sunday night. She was 90.
Malik breathed her last at around 8:15 pm on May 3, family sources said.
She was widely known as the first Assamese woman newsreader of All India Radio (AIR) and remained a pioneering figure in the evolution of Assamese electronic media. During an era when radio served as the primary source of news and public information across the Northeast, her voice became closely associated with Assamese news broadcasting.
