676 government schools in Assam still without electricity, 283 lack boy's toilets: Ranuj Pegu
Guwahati, July 8 -- As many as 676 government schools in Assam are yet to receive electricity, while 283 schools remain without boys' toilets, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said on Monday, outlining the state's plan to equip all government schools with essential infrastructure by March 2027.
In a post on X, Pegu said the 676 schools account for 1.53 per cent of Assam's 44,243 government schools. To bridge the gap, the state government has allocated Rs 4 crore in the current financial year to provide electricity connections to all of them.
He noted that another 643 schools operate without conventional power supply but have been provided with solar energy systems to meet their electricity needs.
