India, Aug. 21 -- Zambian authorities have been urged to launch an independent investigation into the reported fatal shooting of opposition politician and former cabinet minister Mutotwe Kafwaya during a security operation in Lusaka, as concerns grow over arrests of opposition figures following the country's 2026 general election.

Kafwaya Killed During Security Operation

Kafwaya was reportedly shot dead on August 14 when security forces raided a property linked to opposition presidential candidate Brian Mundubile in Kabulonga, Lusaka. Amnesty International said the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear and called for a prompt, thorough and impartial investigation.
