India, Aug. 31 -- The number of people facing crisis levels of hunger in Zambia could rise by 72% in the coming months as an anticipated El Nino drought, weak crop production and rising prices linked to the Middle East conflict increase pressure on vulnerable households.
Acute Food Insecurity Set to Rise
About 1.2 million people, representing roughly 5% of Zambia's population, are projected to face acute food insecurity between October 2026 and March 2027. This would mark a sharp increase from nearly 700,000 people currently experiencing crisis levels of hunger, according to new data cited by Save the Children.
