India, Aug. 3 -- Amnesty International has urged Spain to ensure that dignity, humanity and international human rights standards remain central to its response after a sharp rise in the arrival of migrants and asylum seekers in the North African enclave of Ceuta, warning against measures that could undermine fundamental protections.
Rights Based Approach Needed
Amnesty International said the exceptional increase in arrivals should not justify emergency actions that weaken the rights of people seeking protection. The organisation called on Spanish authorities to guarantee access to asylum procedures, legal assistance, healthcare and safe reception conditions for everyone reaching Ceuta, regardless of their migration status.
