India, Oct. 9 -- Several Southeast Asian countries are taking steps to restrict the use of the death penalty, strengthening momentum towards abolition and increasing pressure on countries that continue to carry out executions, Amnesty International said ahead of World Day Against the Death Penalty on October 10.

Regional Reforms Gain Momentum

In its new briefing, Changing Tides: Reform and Resistance on the Death Penalty in ASEAN, Amnesty International highlighted legislative changes and declining executions across the 11-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
