India, Sept. 25 -- Oxfam has criticised the International Monetary Fund's latest approach to programme design, saying its decision to allow more frontloaded fiscal adjustment risks reviving policies associated with earlier structural adjustment programmes.
IMF Review Draws Oxfam Criticism
The comments came after the IMF Executive Board concluded its 2026 Review of Program Design and Conditionality on September 24. Oxfam International Senior Policy Advisor Nabil Abdo said civil society groups had warned that frontloaded fiscal adjustment could result in large public spending cuts being imposed at the beginning of economic programmes.
