India, Sept. 16 -- The medical response to Nepal's August 26 floods is being shaped by relationships and preparedness measures developed after the country's devastating 2015 earthquake, as damaged roads and transformed river valleys continue to complicate access to affected communities.
Different Disaster, Different Medical Needs
Direct Relief Asia Pacific regional director Gordon Willcock, who also worked in Nepal after the 2015 earthquakes, said the recent disaster has created challenges distinct from those faced after the earthquake. While the 2015 response involved sustained trauma care and crush injuries, the floods have quickly created demand for chronic disease medicines among displaced people.
