India, July 30 -- Amnesty International has urged all parties involved in the conflict around Mali's northern city of Gao to protect civilians and comply with international humanitarian law as fighting intensifies and humanitarian conditions worsen.
Escalating violence around Gao
Amnesty International warned that civilians in and around Gao face growing risks as clashes between Malian forces, allied fighters and armed groups continue. The organization said the conflict has disrupted daily life, endangered residents and heightened concerns over potential violations of international humanitarian law. It called on all parties to distinguish between military targets and civilians and to avoid attacks that could cause indiscriminate harm.
