India, Aug. 10 -- Renewed armed clashes around a maternity hospital in Haiti's capital have forced Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) to evacuate staff and suspend medical activities, leaving thousands of women with almost no access to sexual and reproductive healthcare.
Violence Reaches Hospital Grounds
Fighting between several armed groups intensified from June 13 around the Belekou, Fort Dimanche and Wharf Jeremie neighbourhoods of Port-au-Prince. Bullets struck the walls of the Isaie Jeanty Maternity Hospital in Cite Soleil, while residents fled the violence and sought shelter inside the facility.
