India, Sept. 7 -- The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has warned that proposed EU return hubs for failed asylum seekers could become costly and ineffective facilities while creating serious gaps in human rights protection. The warning follows a joint ministerial commitment to establish such hubs outside the European Union.
Rights safeguards under scrutiny
DRC Secretary General Charlotte Slente said return hubs risk becoming places where fundamental rights are weakened, excessive force becomes routine and access to essential services is uncertain. The organisation said people transferred to such facilities must retain access to legal protection and basic services regardless of where the centres are located.
