India, Sept. 7 -- The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has warned that proposed EU return centres for rejected asylum seekers outside the bloc could prove costly, ineffective and expose vulnerable people to serious human rights risks. The warning comes after EU ministers agreed to continue work on establishing such centres.
Concerns over rights and oversight
DRC said people transferred to return centres could face inadequate access to basic services and protection, while the use of force could become normalised. It urged governments to clearly define the legal status of those sent to the centres and establish safeguards before any transfers take place.
