India, Sept. 18 -- Heavy rainfall linked to the El Nino weather pattern has caused flooding in parts of Mogadishu, Somalia, disrupting operations at an International Rescue Committee (IRC)-supported health centre as the country prepares for potentially heavier rains in the coming months.
Health Centre Hit by Flooding
The IRC said its Ariif Health Centre has already been affected by flooding. Health teams are assessing damage to the facility, staff resources and its ability to continue providing essential healthcare to local communities.
Richard Crothers, IRC Somalia Country Director, said the heavy rain had disrupted operations at a facility on which local families depend for medical services.
