India, July 23 -- One month after devastating twin earthquakes struck Venezuela on June 24, the International Rescue Committee warns that immediate economic investment is essential to prevent the disaster from spiraling into a deeper humanitarian crisis.
Escalating Humanitarian Needs
The number of people requiring humanitarian assistance has increased by 1.4 million in just four weeks, bringing the total to approximately 9.4 million individuals in need. This surge compounds a pre-existing crisis where more than half the population already lived in extreme poverty. Furthermore, the loss of eight million young workers who left the country in previous years has created a critical workforce gap that hinders early recovery efforts.
