India, July 16 -- Frequent drone strikes targeting civilian infrastructure in El Obeid are crippling the city's water and fuel supplies as hostilities intensify in Sudan's North Kordofan region.
Escalating Aerial Assaults
North Kordofan has recorded at least 141 drone attacks as of July 8, 2026, making it the most targeted state in Sudan. Over half of these strikes occurred after June, with the majority concentrated on El Obeid, where the front line is currently less than 25 miles away. The city provides refuge for 100,000 displaced people alongside its 500,000 permanent residents. Civilians often find themselves in the middle of the conflict, arriving exhausted after walking for weeks to find safety only to face new violence.
