India, Oct. 5 -- Seven children have died on average every day from Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo since the outbreak was declared on May 15, with 961 children now confirmed dead, Save the Children said. The figures, based on data from the DRC Ministry of Health, show that young children are facing a particularly severe risk as the outbreak continues to spread across eastern parts of the country.

Under-Fives Account For Most Child Deaths

Children under five account for 623 of the recorded child deaths, representing nearly two-thirds of the total. The case fatality rate among children aged 0 to 4 stands at 61%, considerably higher than the 48% overall fatality rate recorded in the current outbreak.
