India, July 31 -- Amnesty International has warned that a proposed constitutional reform in Nicaragua could further dismantle citizens' right to participate in public affairs by concentrating political power and restricting democratic participation.
Concerns Over Democratic Participation
According to Amnesty International, the proposed constitutional changes would deepen the erosion of civic and political rights by limiting meaningful public participation in governance. The organisation argued that the reform fits into a broader pattern of measures that have steadily narrowed civic space, weakened independent institutions and curtailed opportunities for citizens to influence public decision making.
