India, Aug. 18 -- Iraq's government must take concrete steps to end entrenched impunity for human rights violations and strengthen protections for fundamental freedoms, Amnesty International said in a new appeal ahead of the country's upcoming political transition.
Call For A New Course
Amnesty urged Prime Minister Al-Zaidi's government to deliver on Iraq's human rights commitments and address longstanding abuses involving state institutions, security forces and armed groups. The organisation said authorities must ensure that serious violations are properly investigated and that those responsible are brought before independent courts.
