India, July 22 -- Amnesty International has urged European Union member states to stop allowing the sale of Israel Bonds within the bloc, arguing that continued approval of the financial instruments could expose governments to legal risks over alleged complicity in international crimes committed in Gaza.

Appeal focused on bond approvals

The rights organisation said Israel significantly increased the issuance of government bonds following the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, with proceeds flowing into the state's general budget. Amnesty argued that because the funds help sustain government expenditure, including military operations, EU countries should not facilitate their sale through European financial markets.
