India, Oct. 23 -- Amnesty International said the Huthi de facto authorities must immediately open vital roads in and around Ta’iz city, warning that intensified fighting between the Huthis and government forces is moving closer to densely populated areas and putting thousands of civilians’ lives at risk.
Road closures and tightened control
Amnesty International said the Huthis tightened their control around Ta’iz city after cutting off the main road connecting Ta’iz to Aden in October, pushing the city “to the brink of a severe humanitarian disaster.” It said the Huthis have blocked humanitarian aid, putting access to food, water, and healthcare for hundreds of thousands at grave risk, as reported by United Nations agencies.
