India, Nov. 6 -- Amnesty International, through comments by its Senior Director for Research, Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns Erika Guevara Rosas, called on Israeli authorities to immediately release Palestinian farmer and land defender Ghassan Najjar following his arrest by the Israeli military during a pre-dawn raid in Burin, south of Nablus, on 27 October.
Arrest and alleged basis
Amnesty International said Ghassan Najjar was arrested “solely because of his peaceful activism” to protect the olive harvest season in Burin. It said Israeli intelligence agents had explicitly threatened Najjar, a co-founder of Burin’s Land and Farming Agricultural Cooperative, that he would be arrested if he did not stop his activism.
