India, July 24 -- Amnesty International has urged Zambian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release a state broadcaster journalist detained over social media posts, warning that the case raises serious concerns about press freedom and freedom of expression ahead of the country's general elections.
Journalist detained under Cyber Crimes Act
According to Amnesty International, Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) journalist MacPherson Mukuka was detained on July 17 and formally charged on July 21 under Section 10 of Zambia's 2025 Cyber Crimes Act.
