India, Sept. 3 -- ActionAid has urged governments to accelerate emissions cuts and increase climate funding for vulnerable countries, warning that reliance on unproven carbon removal technologies could delay the deeper changes needed to tackle global warming.

Warning Against Technological Fixes

The statement from ActionAid International followed the release of the UN Environment Programme's report, Limiting Overshoot: Narrowing exceedance of 1.5C and pathways towards return, on September 2. Teresa Anderson, ActionAid's global lead on climate justice, said the climate crisis requires immediate action rather than expectations that future technologies will remove enough carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
