India, Aug. 12 -- A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia early Monday, shaking several major cities and causing severe damage in parts of the country, with the hardest-hit areas reporting injuries, utility disruptions and overwhelmed communication networks.
Epicentre in Choco
The earthquake struck on August 10, with its epicentre recorded in Palmar, in the Pacific coastal department of Choco. Bogota, Manizales, Pereira and Cali were among the cities affected by the tremor.
According to the Colombian Geological Survey, the earthquake was the strongest recorded in the country in the past decade. The tremor occurred at a depth of 88 kilometres and was also felt in neighbouring Ecuador and Panama.
