India, Aug. 12 -- A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on August 10, killing at least 110 people and injuring nearly 100, while damaging hospitals and clinics in Choco, the country's poorest region. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) said communities already affected by conflict and poverty now face worsening access to essential services.
Hospitals and Clinics Damaged
The earthquake was centred in Choco, where infrastructure damage has disrupted access to healthcare and other basic necessities. IRC staff operating near the epicentre were confirmed safe, but reported serious concerns over the ability of affected communities to obtain medical care, shelter and essential supplies.
