New Delhi, July 22 -- U.S. Defence Secretary, Pete Hegseth told the Senate that the U.S.-Israel war on Iran had cost $37.5 billion so far.

During an appearance before the Senate appropriations committee, Hegseth provided an updated account of the war's cost, which was up from a previous estimate of nearly $29 billion in mid-May.

Hegseth defended the Trump administration's roughly $88 billion supplemental funding request, calling it "urgent, necessary". He also called on lawmakers to not just fund the supplemental request but also a $1.5 trillion budget request for 2027.
