New Delhi, Aug. 8 -- A large-scale rescue and relief operation is underway in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district after a cloudburst triggered flash floods and landslides earlier this week.
More than 270 people have been rescued till Thursday evening by joint teams of the Army, Air Force, NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, Uttarakhand Police, and local authorities.
The Indian Air Force has deployed Chinook heavy-lift helicopters to airlift essential supplies and evacuate those stranded. Relief material was mobilized overnight from Air Force stations in Agra and Bareilly.
