New Delhi, Sept. 2 -- The operation followed President Donald Trump's warning that the US would "hit hard." Following the strikes, President Trump issued another warning to Tehran, telling Iran not to retaliate.

In a Truth Social post, President Trump said the US military was striking Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday in retaliation. He described the strikes as "large and powerful" and said they were in response to what he called Iran's "failed attempt" to plant sea mines in the strait.

US President added that a larger attack was "waiting in the wings" and claimed it would leave "very little" of Iran.
