New Delhi, Sept. 13 -- The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Election Commission on a petition seeking a framework for the registration and regulation of political parties. The court directed that all recognised national political parties should also be made parties to the case, noting that their views must be heard.
The petition, filed by Ashwini Upadhyay, contends that there are no specific laws governing political parties, leading to the formation of several parties that never contest elections. The plea also referenced recent Income Tax Department raids on some political parties this year.
The petitioner stated that the objective of the petition is to prevent corruption and the use of black money in politics.
