New Delhi, April 10 -- Ukraine and Russia will observe a ceasefire for the Orthodox Easter holidays, announcing a rare 32-hour halt in fighting.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday announced the ceasefire, and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv would abide by the measure. The Kremlin said the Easter ceasefire would be in effect from Saturday at 4 p.m. to midnight on Sunday evening. Zelenskyy said Ukraine has repeatedly proposed a ceasefire to halt fighting during Orthodox Easter. Putin's announcement is similar to a 30-hour ceasefire he ordered last year, during which each side accused the other of violations.
