New Delhi, Aug. 23 -- Japan continues to be a vital partner in India's transport transformation, playing a key role in projects like the Kolkata Metro and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train.

Speaking to DD, Deputy Consul General of Japan Ashida Katsunori said Japan has contributed nearly half the funding for the Kolkata Metro through its development agency JICA. He expressed satisfaction at witnessing public enthusiasm for the newly inaugurated metro corridors.

Highlighting Japan's broader collaboration with India, Katsunori referred to the ongoing cooperation in the Shinkansen (bullet train) project and reaffirmed Tokyo's long-term support toward India's development goals, including the vision for a developed India by 2047.
