New Delhi, July 28 -- The Teatro Amazonas in Manaus has been inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the newly listed cultural property "Theatres of the Amazon", alongside Theatro da Paz in Belem, Brazil.

The recognition was approved on Monday during the UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting in South Korea.

Built in 1896, the Teatro Amazonas is one of Manaus' most iconic landmarks. The historic theatre reflects European Belle Epoque influences, with Renaissance-inspired architecture and elaborate eclectic designs.

The theatre became one of the first major opera houses in the Americas and continues to represent Brazil's rich cultural heritage.
