New Delhi, May 9 -- Suvendu Adhikari was unanimously elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party at a meeting of newly elected BJP MLAs held at the Kolkata Convention Centre in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who attended as the party's central observer.
Adhikari, who defeated outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from the Bhabanipur constituency in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, is scheduled to take oath as the 9th Chief Minister of West Bengal on May 9. He will become the first Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party to hold the office in the state.
