Supreme Court Says It Will Act if Traders Suffer Unlawful Business Losses Due to Connaught Place Protest Restrictions
New Delhi, Oct. 21 -- A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi observed that if the restrictions imposed by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) were found to be disproportionate, the Court could consider compensation under applicable legal principles.
The observations came after advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai mentioned a petition filed by traders' associations expressing concerns over potential business losses. He submitted that the protest could disrupt trade worth approximately Rs 200 crore daily.
