New Delhi, June 5 -- Former Lok Sabha Secretary-General and noted constitutional expert Subhash C. Kashyap passed away in New Delhi on June 4 following a prolonged illness. He was 97.

A distinguished scholar of the Indian Constitution and parliamentary affairs, Dr. Kashyap served as Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha during the Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Lok Sabhas from 1984 to 1990. Associated with Parliament since 1953, he was widely regarded as one of India's foremost authorities on constitutional law, parliamentary procedures and democratic institutions. He authored more than 100 books and also served as Honorary Research Professor at the Centre for Policy Research.
