New Delhi, May 26 -- External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on May 25 welcomed Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi to New Delhi and underlined the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation, advancing the Free and Open Indo-Pacific vision and discussing emerging global challenges.

In his opening remarks ahead of bilateral talks, Jaishankar noted that India and Japan share a "Special Strategic and Global Partnership", adding that the relationship carries wider regional and global significance. Referring to the upcoming Quad meeting, he said discussions would focus on advancing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific framework.
