New Delhi, Aug. 28 -- A partial lunar eclipse will take place across large parts of North and South America on Thursday night (local time), with millions of people across the continents expected to be able to see nature's marvel.

According to The Guardian, lunar eclipses take place when Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon, causing its shadow to fall across the Moon's surface. During Thursday night's eclipse, around 96 per cent of the Moon will be covered by Earth's shadow at the event's peak.
