New Delhi, Sept. 18 -- US President Donald Trump plans to sign the Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act, which gives the president the power to impose tariffs of up to 100 per cent on major importers of Russian energy, including India.

"The President plans to sign the bill," a White House official told PTI when asked about the presidential signing of the Act into law. The statement came a day after the US House of Representatives approved the bill.

The Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia Act of 2026 was introduced in the US Senate on September 16.

The Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act seeks to impose sanctions on Russia's leadership and energy sector - as well as on collaborators in Moscow's defence industry and its so-called shadow fleet. ...
