New Delhi, Aug. 23 -- Saransh Jain became India's oldest Test debutant since 1998, after the Madhya Pradesh all-rounder received his maiden Test cap from Ravindra Jadeja on Sunday just before Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first against Sri Lanka in the second Test in Colombo.
Saransh replaced Kuldeep Yadav, who was ruled out due to illness. At the time of his debut, Saransh's age was 33 years and 145 days. The last Indian cricketer to make his Test debut after turning 33 was Robin Singh (35 years and 23 days) against Zimbabwe in Harare 1998.
