New Delhi, March 6 -- International Women's Day is celebrated every year on 8 March. It celebrates women's right to equality and liberation along with the equal opportunities. Concerning women centric issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women are given special focus on this day.

The origin of International Women's Day can be traced back to labour movements that arose in Europe and North America during the early 20th century. One of the first reported Women's Day celebration dates back to 28 February 1909 which was organized by the Socialist Party of America in New York City.
