New Delhi, May 29 -- An AI consultant has revealed that one of their enterprise clients generated a $500 million bill in a single month after neglecting to place any usage limits on employee access to Anthropic's Claude platform, in what may rank as one of the most costly IT governance failures on record.

The figure, disclosed to Axios on 28 May, is not a rounding error. Half a billion dollars, spent on artificial intelligence in 30 days, because no one inside a large organisation switched on the equivalent of a spending cap.
