New Delhi, March 29 -- The Congress party on Sunday released a list of 284 candidates for the West Bengal Assembly Elections. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, former state unit chief, will contest the Assembly Polls from the Baharampur Assembly seat.
West Bengal has 294 Assembly seats. The state is voting in two phases - 23 and 29 April. Vote counting will take place on 4 November.
The West Bengal election is being seen as a fight between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The TMC, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, has been in power in West Bengal since 2011, for three consecutive terms.
This turned the BJP into the main challenger to TMC, replacing the Left and Congress.
