Varanasi bans boat connectivity across ghats as raging Ganga nears 71.26 metres danger mark
New Delhi, Aug. 22 -- Swollen Ganga River has become a cause of concern as it is flowing near 71.26 metres danger mark. The rising water level prompted authorities to take precautionary steps and as a result the connectivity between all ghats has been cut off.
Few metres away from the danger level, Ganga river is has already touched 68.74 metres mark, according to the Central Water Commission report. The water level is steadily rising at a rate of 20 millimetres per hour due to which certain emergency measures have been taken besides docking of all small and big boats along the ghats. If the water level continues to rise at the current pace, it could reach the danger mark soon, ANI quoted officials' statement.
